In my experience, there are lots of great entrepreneurs out there! Great small local shops and markets populate the Washington, DC area, the Greater Los Angeles area and even small one-horse towns in the Midwest (where I’m from). Often times these great places are only known by locals and very near proximity neighborhoods.
Word of mouth is great, but one has to think of the Internet as the new word of mouth. Lot’s of people check online for restaurants, stores, and markets nearby. Even visitors from out of town will look for stores, dining choices and buying locations using the internet and map apps on their mobile phone. Even if you only braid hair, shine shoes, make keys or notarize documents, having a website is crucial.
If you don’t have a website, you could be missing customers. In fact, they might drive right past you because they couldn’t find you online. Having attractive photos on a clear website will give you a better opportunity to be seen and to sell. Remember, a free website is better than no website at all. Don’t be intimidated and don’t be afraid to reach out to a consultant and negotiate a price. It’s worth it in dollars and cents.
